Huy Fong Foods (Sriracha)

Founded by David Tran, an ethnic-Chinese Vietnamese refugee who arrived in the US by boat in 1979
$150M+ annual revenue · ~200 employees

The Founder’s Story

Tran started the company selling chili sauce out of a van in Los Angeles’ Chinatown; its rooster-logo Sriracha bottle is now a fixture in American kitchens. Tran’s son William (President) and daughter Yassie (VP) run the family business today.

Real Impact

Employment

  • During a major 2016–2018 pepper-supply disruption, Huy Fong laid off none of its 115 employees — David Tran reportedly paid out of pocket to keep them on. [Fortune]

Locally Sourced Products

  • Sourced red jalapeños almost exclusively from a single Ventura County, CA farm for 28 years (1988–2016), growing to roughly 100 million lbs of peppers a year; sourcing today is concentrated among Ventura, Los Angeles, and Kern county growers. [Fortune / Wikipedia]
